The paper, “Eyewitnesses are Misled by Human but Not Robot Interviewers” by Cindy L. Bethel, Deborah Eakin, Sujan Anreddy, James Kaleb Stuart, and Daniel Carruth, has been accepted for oral presentation in the technical research program and for publication in the proceedings of the 8th ACM/IEEE International Conference on Human-Robot Interaction 2013. HRI 2013 will be held in Tokyo, Japan in March 2013. The acceptance rate for the conference this year was 25%.
Dr. Cindy L. Bethel, Assistant Professor and Director of the Social, Therapeutic, and Robotic Systems (STaRS lab) has been awarded a total of $2000 for the ORED sponsored Cross College Research Grant. The funding will provide support for the Robotics Systems and Psychosocial Robotics Working Groups to pursue research funding.
Ankit Arya been selected as the 2013 Outstanding Undergraduate Student Researcher for the Bagley College of Engineering. He will be the college’s submission to the university research awards program, run by the office of the VP for Research and Economic Development. Ankit has worked on research with Dr. Cindy Bethel from CSE and Dr. Derek Anderson from ECE.

Ankit Arya’s abstract submission, “Computer Vision for Detection of SWAT Teams in Challenging Environments Using Long Wave Infrared Imagers ,” was approved for presentation for at the National Council on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) Conference 2013 at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. Chosen from more than 3,500 submissions, his abstract demonstrates a unique contribution to his field of study and he has been offered the opportunity to present his work to his peers, faculty, and staff from around the world.
Dr. Cindy L. Bethel was appointed to the Organizing Committee for the 8th ACM/IEEE International Conference on Human-Robot Interaction serving as the Primary Co-Chair for the Late Breaking Reports. HRI 2013 will be held in Tokyo, Japan in March 2013.
